Roadster 3.0

Battery technology has continued a steady improvement in recent years, as has our experience in optimizing total vehicle efficiency through Model S development. We have long been excited to apply our learning back to our first vehicle, and are thrilled to do just that with the prototype Roadster 3.0 package. It consists of three main improvement areas.

1. Batteries
The original Roadster battery was the very first lithium ion battery put into production in any vehicle. It was state of the art in 2008, but cell technology has improved substantially since then. We have identified a new cell that has 31% more energy than the original Roadster cell. Using this new cell we have created a battery pack that delivers roughly 70kWh in the same package as the original battery.

2. Aerodynamics
The original Roadster had a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.36. Using modern computational methods we expect to make a 15% improvement, dropping the total Cd down to 0.31 with a retrofit aero kit.

3. Rolling Resistance
The original Roadster tires have a rolling resistance coefficient (Crr) of 11.0 kg/ton. New tires that we will use on the Roadster 3.0 have a Crr of roughly 8.9 kg/ton, about a 20% improvement. We are also making improvements in the wheel bearings and residual brake drag that further reduce overall rolling resistance of the car.

Summary
Combining all of these improvements we can achieve a predicted 40-50% improvement on range between the original Roadster and Roadster 3.0. There is a set of speeds and driving conditions where we can confidently drive the Roadster 3.0 over 400 miles. We will be demonstrating this in the real world during a non-stop drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles in the early weeks of 2015.

Appointments for upgrading Roadsters will be taken this spring once the new battery pack finishes safety validation. We are confident that this will not be the last update the Roadster will receive in the many years to come.

New Smart ForSpeed Concept Hints

While Smart has no immediate plans to produce the ForSpeed, key styling elements such as the headlamp and tail lamp designs with the outer rings illuminated by a LEDs as well as the more prominent front grille, will be carried over to future products including the next ForTwo series and the new five-door ForFour as the company plans to create a more distinct look for its cars to better compete with the Fiat 500 and the Mini.

SAIC Motor

Inspired by a simple ant’s distinctive body structure and the mutually beneficial relationship between ants and trumpet trees, SAIC Motors designed Roewe “Mobiliant.” Mobiliant is a single-seat vehicle for urban public transit, which helps improve both transportation and operation efficiency for future urban ecological systems.

E-Vul Electric Car

 According to Berkeley Study, a university of California, by the year of 2030, most of us will be driving electric cars. Maybe that’s why this concept, E-Vul electric car, is dedicated for the year of 2030. This electric-powered vehicle concept was designed after careful consideration of our environmental issues, future living status and the effect of new energy technologies.


Lucky Punk – Electric Concept Car

Innovative concepts always manage to transcend all limits of conventionality to appeal to our ‘audacious’ side of nature. Well, we are lucky enough to come across Lucky Punk, a four wheeled vehicle concept that certainly falls under the innovative as well as audacious bracket. Conceived by the design squad of Lucky Team 21, the futuristic all-terrain vehicle is inspired by a myriad of influences ranging from aircrafts to bio-engineering.
The petite, aerodynamic form shrouded by a flashy ’see-through’ material, will be supported by a four-wheel system driven by electric hub motors. They in turn will be powered by an exclusive and conspicuous (in comparison to the size of the car) magnetic engine, which according to the designers will have the capability to produce 5 times more power than it consumes. The energy generated by the engine can be stored in batteries for further convenient and practical usage.
 Coming to the unique and rather advanced wheel system, the tires used would be literally self growing. Constructed from a composite of bio-rubber and mushroom, the tires will ‘grow’ around their fixed central system of molds. When supplied with electricity, the augmenting process will become faster, thus helping the bio-engineered tires to reach their fullest form around the molds.
 Other features like the distinct aircraft inspired fin on the back section of the vehicle will help in dissipating heat. The paint job will vary from matte (for absorbing heat) to glossy (for reflecting heat), while the body steering will be controlled by an adaptive suspension mechanism by the wheels. So all in all, the energy efficient, low emission futuristic vehicle will be perfectly suitable for an adventurous romp fueled by green technology.

Renault R4 Rally Is Constructed From Stretched Textiles Over a Tubular Structure

 Parisian designers’ yann terrer in partnership with jérôme garzon has unveiled a new concept car as part of Renault 4 Ever competition, called Renault R4 Rally, focusing on the energy cycle. The competition itself asked its participants to redesign the Renault R4 to feature its historical lineage, contemporary aesthetic and sustainable design.
 Being powered by solar energy, the concept car integrates nanotechnology with eco-friendly materials. The Renault R4 rally adds factors for improving the competence during the sedan’s manufacture and its use. In fact, this concept car earns the honor for being shortlisted among the 3200 submissions from 92 different countries in the competition. This concept car has been made of stretched textiles over a tubular structure, while its body employs less energy during production in comparison to a conventional one that is made of steel.

Since nanotechnology has been used, the sedan’s body fabric lets solar energy to be assimilated and harnessed. The doors are designed to have open structures that necessitate minimal material for manufacture. Renault R4 rally concept gives the other parked sedans the innovative function of generating electricity.





Supersonic Futuristic Car

 The Supersonic is developed by Marko Lukovic of Serbia, a professor of industrial design. The structural design of SUPERSONIC is very essential and unique compared to other cars. Supersonic can carry two people seated one behind the other. It’s been designed with superb aerodynamics where main inspiration was established based on high-speed Supersonic flying aircrafts. The principles of the aerodynamic and easy styling are now radically emphasized. The very large Xenon head-lights are installed with blue LEDs, which produce the very striking and eye-catchy exterior design.

This futuristic vehicle has been designed with three wheels where the front wheels are hidden and each of back wheels is driven by its own controlling electric motor. It has extra-durable lithium-ion batteries which are located at the rear part of the supersonic. The steering is composed of Drive-By-Wire system and the transmission is automatic. It satisfies all future needs and is very light and safe. Automatic pilot mode is a typical feature.


Nimbell Electric City Tractor

 The Electric City Tractor project was all about designing a conceptual city tractor, which works entirely on electricity. A team of entrepreneurs at the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship worked on the concept and developed it. Eventually, it was used by Nimbell Motors to get investors for their company. According to the team members, ensuring perfect balance between the eco friendliness of the tractor and its credibility was a tough task. After comprehensive user studies and complete understanding of ergonomics, a life size mock-up was built. The design team which in totality had eight members was bifurcated, with each team having four members each. The work load was evenly divided, with one team handling the interiors and the other being responsible for the exterior expressions.
 Every person who owns a farm knows the importance of using electric tractors. However, if you are going to buy a tractor, then initially you may be only concerned about the budget, the type of work you need to do with the tractor, how much land you need to work and in which months of the year you will be using your tractor. After being satisfied with all these parameters you really get concerned about how much energy-efficient and environmentally friendly your tractor is. But this mindset needs to be changed. As the time is progressing, so is the technology, making our machines more nature friendly. The Nimbell Electric City Tractor is certainly a step forward toward ensuring sustainable development, which is the need of the hour.

Sunbeam Tiger Concept By Ryan Skelley

 With the advancements in the field of batteries and electric motors, new transportation concepts are popping up, promising high performance and stylish design. The new “Sunbeam Tiger Concept” is another concept that can answer the question raised on the performance and speed of electric cars as compared to other vehicles. The concept was designed as a part of final year project of Coventry University’s design course by Ryan Skelley. It’s a two-seater lightweight vehicle powered by a lithium-titanate battery pack. That means a zero emission engine with better performance
 If you remember, the Sunbeam Tiger holds the land speed record achieved in 1925. This new concept can be considered as a rebirth of its previous version. Theoretically, the vehicle can achieve a 0-60 mph speed in 2.3 seconds and can go up to an electronically limited 160mph top speed. Once the battery is fully charged, which will take 4 hours with an optional charger, the Sunbeam can take you up to 800 miles. It’s not at all a bad performance for an electric car.

A zero emission engine is not the only factor that makes this ride environmentally friendly, but even the materials used in construction also include eco-friendly material. Recycled aluminum makes the chassis that also features integrated rollover protection for the user. Body panels are made from hemp fiber and are eco-painted as well. Further, making it more ethical, the design incorporates an interior made from soy foam seats covered with natural bio-fabric.

Wait, it wasn’t the last eco-friendly feature; lastly we have tires made up of cornstarch and natural fiber for the brake pads. Honestly, if this concept ever hits the road, it will be a green landmark.

Green Bug

Green plants specially trees give streets and roadsides a very fresh and relaxed sight. They not only provide shade but also filter air making it clean for living beings. But like anything else even trees need to be maintained. Lim Wan Xuan with her teammates Tang Xueling Jane, Dominic Poon Chit Hong, Joanne Teoh Ee Mei has designed Green Bug which will be of great help in terms of urban agriculture.

It will give every tree its own unique identity, as every tree will be clipped with a chip which will work in association with GIS system. This will act as an interconnected system facilitating a lot of tree maintenance processes. With the help of RFID and GIS systems, it will become easy to scrutinize and handle/cure trees. This cute and compact vehicle will give trees in Milan an all new life. The car is powered by an air engine as electricity is used to compress air in the air tanks. This makes sure that are no emissions from the vehicle.

It has a compact telescopic seat platform that makes good use of gyroscopic sensor technology along with vertical lift hydraulic technology. Trees can be pruned with the help of an innovative waterjet technology, to keep them in a healthy state. Charging the battery of Green Bug doesn’t come with any special instructions. It takes 3-4 hours to get fully charged with electricity or if you take the car till a fuel station, refueling will hardly consume 2-3 minutes of your life. A single charge will allow Green Bug to cover 200-300 km.

Sanca Genesis GT By Arifin Santosa

The age of supercars has dawned and each model that reaches the market brings with it a ‘wow’ factor. With power, speed and looks to kill, they come with a heavy price tag as well. For times immemorial now, Ferrari Enzo has been synonymous with Enzo based supercars, and designers now envisage the exclusive debutant, Genesis Sanca as nothing short of being the new age Ferari Enzo.
 The intricate handwork of three distinguished and highly experienced designers in the international automotive industry, Genesis Sanca is crafted to perfection with an impeccable blend of aesthetics, looks, performance, technology and safety.
 The brains behind this trend setter model have worked tirelessly and engineered this design to raise the bar for the standards in the sector; what else could one expect if above 19,000 man hours has led to such a master piece creation. A design primarily developed by Arifin Santosa, it was conceptualized way back in 2007.
In 2008, the first 1:4 layout of the Sanca was brought out. Consecutively, many tests and research processes were being conducted, rather rigorously for three years and only now, on April 14 it will be exhibited in the famous Top Marques Monaco.
If you are simply crazy about speed and performance and are willing to pay the price to flaunt some brilliance, then this car has plenty of things in store for you. Boasting of a chic and classy carbon monocoque frame and a Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 engine with a fabulous capacity 647 hp, this car looks sexy in its bold black exterior. Needless to say, its interiors are extremely flamboyant as well.
 It also has many other technically advanced features, like a six-speed Xtrac Synchromesh Transaxle gearbox, carbon ceramic breaks and many more. It weighs about 1350kg and measures 4.3 meters long, making it an ideal pick for a supercar fanatic.
 Developers of the Genesis Sanca say that the car can accelerate to above 100km per hour in 3.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 330 km per hour. Quite undoubtedly, this new age technical genius has created a league for itself in the market.

Go!Bus Double Decker By Ruben Oya

 A journey with friends is always a joy ride. This design by Ruben Oya is extremely interesting and looks like fun too. It is a double-decker that can accommodate 7 seven people. It has a transparent deck where you can enjoy the sites in the safety of your wonder vehicle. The only advise would be to stock up on fuel because getting lost in some God forsaken place will not be pretty. Especially if you are seen in an overly colourful moving cabin! The design also includes seats and beds to sleep in. interesting

Light in Motion Concept By Marcel Zuziak

 Cars are getting an overhaul every day. The bulky drives are being swapped into compact and light vehicles so that they don’t consume much space while parking or moving on the road. Bringing the charm of this concept on the road is Marcel Zuziak, who has designed the Light in Motion concept.
 This cute looking car is a three-wheel drive. It measures 3215mm in length, 1550mm in height and is 1790mm wide. The rear of this car is pointed while the front is round and looks quite curved. This two-seater vehicle is an electric drive.
 Its rear wheel built-in electromotor is 150kW (201hp) and has a 300 Nm of torque. The lightweight car can jump from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds. The facade has clean cuts and has been made to look glossy. The car’s minimalistic designing makes it eye-appealing and its novel shape will definitely make it stand out of the crowd

SUB G1 Three wheeler by Jay Breet


Ever wondered what the offspring of a car and a motorcycle would probably look like? Well, this sure seems to be the ideal mix of the two. Designed by Jay Brett, the SUB G1 is a three-wheeled contraption that combines motorcycle and technology with a driving experience. The vehicle uses two wheels on the front axle while the third wheel keeps the G1’s backside from scraping the ground. The headlights rest in the nose like front of the G1 with the indicators attached near the front wheels. Oh, and this certainly isnt a vehicle you can enjoy a family drive with. It has just one seat.

Apache FM1


At the first instance, it may seem like a wrecked car emerging from a disastrous accident. However, according to the designer, this is the final form (and we must believe him) of the Apache FM1 concept vehicle, a two-seater trike, whose style – in my book – borders on the lines of being bold and bizarre. Inspired by the famous AH-64 Apache helicopter, this conception would definitely make heads turn on the road.


Contrived by designer Senni Med from Morocco, the body comes with front grille bar ornamented with the traditional ‘X’, and a logo representing FuturmeDesign. The polished aluminum surface makes way for the tapering upper part, thus making that conspicuous angle finally culminating at the outwardly bending magnetic wheels.

The blatantly angled curves carry over to the capriciously shaped headlights and the panoramic windscreen. The overall ‘chaos of alignments’ may impart that wickedly aggressive demeanor of the vehicle, but for purists it just may be too much of being bohemian. Still one cannot deny the novelty of a design, which is uniquely inspired by the form of a helicopter.

Ecco


Transportation scenario seems to transcend beyond ones imagination with complete fantasy cars been designed keeping an eye on the future. If anyone feels otherwise, he/she must have a look at “Ecco”, a concept car designed by Nau for hardcore technology freaks. This wacky camper is not just about speed and comfort but freedom. An automobile that zooms away when it hits the road and becomes a home equipped with requisite luxuries on can think of. If offers it all, ensuing, you don’t have to worry about accommodation and even fuel when you start on your voyage to any place in the world.


Ecco closely resembles a sperm or a tadpole with its sleek pod design that cuts back the wind resistance effectively, thereby, allowing the car to hover close to the ground. It is installed with a PV cell-studded “membrane roof” that folds out to capture maximum energy from the Sun and can be utilized as a sleeping loft. Ecco has all the facilities for extended living including a small kitchen, a living area, a toilet and shower. In addition, it also accommodates an extra bed 8 feet wide and 15 feet long into the space.

The exterior is aerodynamically designed using finest quality aluminum and glass, thus, is light in weight. Such unique design enables maximum utilization of the available energy. Being completely electrically-powered, Ecco doesn’t have any emission of its own making it highly eco-friendly and pollution free. Surely, this vehicle will transmogrify what automobiles and transportation has been all about.

Oasis


Oasis is an all-electric concept vehicle that allows you to explore the vast stretches of sand dust under seething sun with relative comfort and clean energy. This off-road vehicle might be useful not just in the desserts, but also on the dirt tracks that are too demanding for your normal city wheels. Oasis comes with an ultra-light aluminum chassis, 28 inches of ground clearance for a bit of airtime, fiberglass shell and plenty of torque for the extra oomph.


There is very little in terms of carbon-footprint when you drive Oasis. With its electric drivetrain and lithium-ion batteries that power it on, you can expect silent and emission-free ride. There will be no ear-shattering engine roar on this off-road beauty for sure. Maybe that makes Oasis the perfect vehicle for explorers to sneak up closer to nature without scaring birds and animals off, in the wild.

Silent, stylish and stunning – the Oasis tries to mix adventure with eco-friendly intent to give us the possibility of exploring nature in a clean and calm fashion.
